The Vision of the Regina Whittlers and Woodcarvers Club:
To develop and maintain a fraternity of persons interested in all aspects of whittling and woodcarving.
To accomplish this Vision we have the following Objectives:
- To provide advice and assistance on sculpture in wood and other media.
- To arrange and/or assist in arranging training and seminars independently or in co-operation with others.
- To share information on products and/or materials, availability, cost and location.
- To hold regular meetings covering business aspect.
- To encourage discount rates and special considerations at retail and wholesale outlets.
- To encourage knowledge about and appreciation for carving through public displays, seminars, and exhibitions.
Club members meet monthly on the second Thursday and third Thursday of each month from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at the Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre (2420 Elphinstone St) from September to May. Carvers bring projects to work on and share with others, gaining advice and encouragement. Each carving season, on the second Thursday of the month, a beginner carving class is offered by seasoned club members. Those interested in learning carving can sign up for beginner classes at our Annual Artistry in Wood Show or reach out to the club for more information. The club has basic woodcarving materials available to give people a chance to try out the craft. On the third Thursday, club members work on either a major project which is scheduled over many meetings, or if not involved in the major project, they work on a small project together, with patterns + wood available for a small fee that helps cover room rental costs and materials. During odd months, the beginning of these meetings include a short business meeting. The RWW also maintains a Club Library at the NBCAC for members. Membership with the RWW provides access to all these great opportunities to carve and more. Club Membership for 2025 – 2026 is $30. Please visit our membership page to learn all the perks of joining.
Annually, RWW partners with the South Saskatchewan Woodturners Guild to put on the “Artistry in Wood” show and sale, a wonderful opportunity to learn about woodworking, watch live demos of whittling, carving, and turning, bring home beautiful pieces of woodwork from local artisans, and learn how to get involved. RWW has also been involved in many community events over the years, including demonstrations and displays at the Queen City Ex, Windsor Plywood, and more. Check out our Updates and News page to find out about upcoming events where you can find RWW. RWW is proud to support folks undergoing treatment at the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic in Regina by providing “Comfort Birds” – these small hand-carved birds provide a sensory comfort for anxiety and are all hand-carved by RWW members. As of the winter of 2025, 3,786 birds have been made.
